Tautoru Mautai is an intergenerational kaupapa to restore the whenua at Te Kaio on Banks Peninsula to its former state. This partnership between Wairewa Rūnanga and Orion is grounded in mana whenua-led stewardship, combining traditional Māori knowledge with contemporary environmental practices to regenerate the natural cloak and ecological resilience of the area. Over 200,000 seedlings have been planted so far, and we are well on the way to realising the vision of Wairewa whānau to see a thriving native forest cloaking the landscape.
