The Active Refrigeration and Alliance High Temperature Heat Pump programme demonstrates how large industrial energy users can decarbonise process heat at scale while improving competitiveness and energy resilience. Delivered across three Alliance processing plants, the programme integrates highly efficient refrigeration and water-sourced heat pump systems to recover waste heat and displace process heat from coal-fired boilers. Providing more than 11 MW of thermal capacity and avoiding an estimated 24,680 tCO₂e per year of emissions, the projects have reduced exposure to imported fuels, strengthened regional economies, and built national engineering capability through local delivery and workforce development.
