Carbon Zero and Beyond at YHA (Youth Hostel Association) New Zealand
This award nomination is a joint venture between YHA New Zealand and Sunshine Solar in a successful effort to become the first Accomodation network in the world to become certified carbon zero. Spin off benefits have included reducing carbon emission by 81 tonnes per year and growing, reducing energy bills by in some cases a third of previous bills, and promotion of a low carbon future to 250,000 visitors to YHA hostels every year. The innovation in this award has been a collaboration between YHA and Sunshine Solar looking at reducing carbon, increasing guest comfort and promotion of a low carbon future.
