Orion – Pioneering low carbon generators

2022
Adopting Statcoms and biodiesel to reduce emissions

Used chip fat and static synchronous compensators are two key ingredients in an ambitious project by Orion to decarbonise its diesel generators.

The generators account for at least 15 per cent of Orion’s operational carbon footprint. A ground-breaking trial saw emissions reduced by at least 9 tCO2e, and may deliver potential savings of at least 130 tCO2e.

What’s more, by taking the bold step of being the first to adopt this technology, Orion has carved a path that will give other users of large generators the confidence to also decouple from diesel.
