The 49MW TOPP2 geothermal project showcases a unique partnership approach to development. Owned and operated by Eastland Generation, TOPP2 was developed collaboratively with iwi-owned Ngāti Tūwharetoa Geothermal Assets, who are providing a long-term supply of geothermal fluid to the station. Other unique aspects of this custom-designed project include the innovative funding structure, transmission connection solution, and offtake structure. Today, TOPP2 is generating enough renewable energy to power 55,000 homes. It’s delivering meaningful commercial outcomes, multi-generational benefits to the local Kawerau community, and supporting Aotearoa’s long-term energy resilience.
