Transpower has completed a five-year programme of 30 projects to extend the life of part of Aotearoa New Zealand’s high voltage direct current link between the North and South Islands. The thinking behind this work, the solutions development, the planning and the execution has been both innovative and courageous, demonstrating Transpower’s expertise. The programme costs are around $63 million and, with an asset replacement cost estimated at $1 billion, the impact of this achievement will meaningfully avoid significant costs to electricity consumers for two decades.
