New Zealand’s energy future will be driven by significant growth in electrification. To enable this, we need an uplift in our highly trained engineering and STEM-capable workforce. Since 2021, Transpower has partnered with Engineering New Zealand’s Wonder Project to develop and deliver the Wonder Project: Power Challenge – a free STEM resource kit that switches intermediate-age children on to the science behind electricity and the rewards of a career in STEM. Reaching 410 classes in 2026, the Power Challenge is building confidence and curiosity in STEM, and along with Transpower’s ambassadors, is growing the energy sector workforce of the future.
