Tower painting finds its mojo

Transpower’s ability to connect New Zealanders to their power system through safe, smart solutions for today and tomorrow is directly related to the health of our core National Grid assets. Powering our nation’s economy and communities requires that we ensure all of our 25,000 towers,12,000 kilometres of transmission lines, and other essential grid components are well-managed.

While developing our Tower Painting Programme, our objective was to extend asset lifespans and increase the number of assets we were able to service in a year, while also keeping our workers safe. After implementation, our programme saw a substantial change in the industry, reduced costs above and beyond what we anticipated and— most significantly— showed through a Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) that went from a high of 39 in November of 2015 to today’s rate of 3.4.
