Mikaere Ngarimu, Eastland Network Assets and Planning Manager, grew up off the grid in a remote area of the East Coast. When he was 11, he and his dad installed a micro hydro unit for the house. This inspired Mikaere’s career in the energy industry.
He attended the local full immersion school, then studied at Auckland University.
Aged 31, Mikaere is spearheading a multi-million-dollar transformer replacement programme. He’s also leading the restructuring of the asset management plan, one of the most significant organisational changes the company has ever seen.
His colleagues say he’s “supportive, with mana, a great leader.”
