The 13th annual New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards is now open for entries. This year's awards will feature a new category, the Social Procurement Award, which aims to highlight positive social and environmental outcomes delivered through the acquisition of goods, services, and works.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Te Pae Conference Centre in Christchurch on Wednesday, 30 August 2023. Entries are open to organisations and individuals in the energy sector, including energy retailers, large energy users, and community initiatives.

The 10 award categories for this year's event are:

  • Innovation in Energy Award sponsored by Ara Ake
  • Community Initiative of the Year sponsored by Eagle Technology
  • Energy Retailer of the Year sponsored by EDMI Limited
  • Large Energy User Initiative of the Year sponsored by EECA
  • Low Carbon Future Award sponsored by Energy Resources Aotearoa
  • Network Initiative of the Year sponsored by Utilities Disputes
  • Outcomes Award sponsored by Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko
  • Social Procurement Award sponsored by BlueFloat Energy
  • Well-being Award (sponsorship available)
  • Young Energy Professional of the Year (sponsorship available)

The energy awards ceremony is an opportunity for organisations and individuals in the energy sector to showcase their achievements and innovations, and to be recognised for their contributions to the industry. The Social Procurement Award, in particular, is expected to draw significant interest, as it highlights the importance of considering social and environmental outcomes in the procurement process.

“We look forward to seeing the energy sector’s impact in this area grow, and be celebrated through these awards from 2023 on,” says Carlos Martin, chief executive of international offshore wind energy developer BlueFloat Energy, sponsors of the Social Procurement Award.
