Ecogas – Closing the food and energy loop through anaerobic digestion

2023

In October 2022, Ecogas opened the country’s first commercial-scale anaerobic digestion facility at Reporoa.

The plant has already processed almost 7,500 tonnes of food waste, ahead of forecast volumes, and has prevented the equivalent of up to 13,000 tonnes of CO2 being released into the atmosphere. The biogas produced will be used to make electricity, heat, biomethane and bio-CO2
