FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR DELOITTE ENERGY AWARDS 2011

The finalists in the 2011 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards recognising achievement in the New Zealand energy sector were announced today.

The awards, now in their second year, are being held in Auckland at the Langham Hotel on August 17 to recognise achievement and excellence in the New Zealand energy sector.

Chairman of the Judging Panel, Peter Griffiths, says that the calibre of entries was extremely high and the finalist selection process had been a tough one.

"Following a rigorous judging process we are delighted to announce the finalists and wish them well on the night," he says. "The judging panel was impressed by the overall quality of the entries and our task certainly hasn't been easy."

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and dinner on August 17.

Acting Minister of Energy and Resources Hon. Hekia Parata will be speaking and presenting at the awards. "This awards night is an important event for the sector that I am pleased to be a part of," she says. "Recognising those who achieve excellence in any field of industry is an important part of a successful country."

Deloitte partner and energy leader Paul Callow says the sector plays a crucial role in the economy, and will be particularly important as a driver of the country’s return to strong growth.

Callow says Deloitte, as principal sponsor of the Energy Awards, is proud to be involved with recognising the people and businesses which are at the forefront of the energy sector.

“We are pleased to have a role in acknowledging excellence in the sector and congratulate all the finalists announced today.  Their efforts are collectively helping to build a better and more prosperous New Zealand.”

The event is being organised by Freeman Media, publisher of online news and information service Energy News. Organiser Matt Freeman says that ticket sales have already passed 400 and is expecting over 600 in attendance.
