The impetus and challenge to create a more renewable NZ
When it comes to cutting emissions, inevitably the biggest challenge and the biggest responsibility, falls on those organisations which have supported economies through the use of fossil fuels. Genesis is the country’s largest provider of thermal electricity generation and as such carries immense responsibility for its part in ensuring reliable, affordable energy supply to New Zealand. Genesis has made the biggest reduction in carbon emissions of any New Zealand company over the past decade – cutting coal use by 80 per cent and halving emissions while continuing to support and enable New Zealand’s largely renewable sector. In February 2018 Genesis set out its ambition for the removal of coal from the sector.
