Ground breaking structural remediation for the Maari platform
Innovative engineering allowed fast and reduced cost repairs to the structure of the Maari Wellhead Platform offshore New Zealand in 2016.
Careful safety management by operator OMV New Zealand allowed temporary repair by divers, without needing to mobilise offshore repair vessels from Asia. Production restarted within 7 weeks.
Further innovations enabled permanent repair within only 6 months, including:
- using bespoke control tools to grout a 22 metre long mandrel inside a platform leg;
- divers measuring the damaged structures precisely with underwater jigs;
installing a structural clamp designed for diver safety, requiring work only at depths below the dangerous wave zone.
