Dunedin City Council & Smart Alliances

Wastewater energy project

Smart Alliances have developed a service to help cities significantly reduce electrical energy use by using wastewater thermal energy for heating/cooling buildings. Smart Alliances calculate the thermal energy available within a wastewater network and create thermal energy maps of this. To their knowledge they are the only provider in the world of this service.

Dunedin City Council have had this calculation & mapping service completed and discovered there’s enough to heat 1,000 NZ houses or the equivalent in commercial and industrial buildings.

Smart Alliances are now investigating development of a strategy for utilizing this energy, to help Dunedin City become a cleaner, more sustainable city.
